Recharging Your Mind, Body, and Soul

Conscious Life Space

Recharging is essential for your mind, body, and soul and if anyone out there is suffering from burnout, it’s time to take control of your time and make time for yourself. Here’s how I went from exhausted and depressed to letting go of struggle and creating a daily self-care practice.

Exhausted & Depressed

When I was a new mom, I quickly became totally exhausted and depressed. I had abandoned taking care of myself and focused only on my son’s well being. It was too much for me, and I found it difficult to get out of the sad victim sob story that I was all alone and there was no one out there to help me. Why me?

I never knew what self-care was until I realized I desperately needed it. Self-care is something most of us practice sub-consciously and it’s only when we realize that we lack it, do we discover its true power.

I had quit my job when my son was born with no savings or Plan B other than that I wanted to work from home and start a business. But I knew it would take years before there was any stable income coming in. With that said, I had no money to hire a nanny or babysitter. I was stuck.

I had very little to no help with my son. No family, no friends to watch him so I could take some time off. It was just the 2 of us most of the time. I watched my friends on Facebook post family pics and date nights with their husbands while the kids were with Grandma. I didn’t have that, and it hurt seeing it all the time. “It’s not fair,” I thought.

Two Years Later

Me and my son Damien

It took me 2 years to actually do something about it. I was really sick of feeling sorry for myself. I knew I was strong enough to overcome anything, and it was time to take control over my life. I decided I was going to find ways to incorporate self-care into my daily routine and find a way to do it with my 2-year-old around.

I started by taking baths with my son because every time I tried to take a bath alone, he would cry in the other room. This was a game changer. I got to lay down and relax while he splashed around and played with his cars. When I took him to the park, I decided to go on swings, sit and read a book or draw. My son has even meditated with me for about 5 minutes until he got bored. This was my self-care and his playtime. I was getting the hang of it!

As he grew older, he began to understand that I needed my time and it became easier to take baths on my own and even meditate. I was a new person! I wanted to share this with the world. It wasn’t just meant for me but for anyone else who wanted to empower their lives with daily self-care. What started as a difficult struggle in my life became the inspiration from which I was able to start a new business. I am very passionate about my work as an artist, and it also enables me to help and inspire other women.

I wanted to create a fun self-care activity deck for myself to use and not just for me but for others too. Then in 2017, my Quality Time Self-Care Activity Deck was born! Today, my favorite things to do are read books while taking a long bath, meditate and to watch TV at the end of the day. Looking back, I can see how far I’ve come and I am so happy that I conquered not only single motherhood but self-care as well (and you can too.)
