Why Mom Was Right About Happiness

With age comes wisdom, and with wisdom come wealth and happiness!
If you are living in a western country then you have already won the lottery, we have never had it better, compared to the rest of the world you and me are living just like rock stars.

How do you grow your happiness? It’s simple, instead of paying Attention to everything that you don’t have, pay attention to what you do have. Being grateful is the first step that leads to happiness. So let’s grow our happiness

1. Every morning, take 5-10 minutes, to think or even better write down, things that you are grateful for.

2. Every night, write up 3-4 great things that happened to you that day. The great thing here is that you will start to actively seek for good things.

It’s important to keep this up, as we are biologically hard-wired to survive. That’s why we naturally tend to pay attention to things that can go wrong, like what is lurking in the bushes.

Being in a mindset of paying attention to the dangers lurking in the bushes was great back then, but today it’s just obsolete biological wiring. As we have natural tendencies to think about the negative. By focusing on things that are good we counteract our biology. This takes a lot of effort, but the result is happiness and that is what we want.

I catch myself all the time wanting more, then I have to rethink that actually have everything that I need! Having more stuff doesn’t make you happier, banking the money will give you more freedom which is another step that leads to happiness. Why banking your money is so important will be a followed up soon in another post!

And I want to end it with a quote from my Finnish friend Jukka ‘Just because you are drinking doesn’t mean that you are having a good time’
