Edinburgh’s Secret Herb Garden
There’s no denying I love a good cup of tea, so when there’s a chance to experience that somewhere a little different, naturally I jumped at the opportunity. Nestled into the Pentland Hills, one of my favourite places in Edinburgh to escape the business of city-life, is the Secret Herb Garden. It’s here you’ll find a 7.5 acre herb nursery, complete with cafe and shop. Everything from vintage furniture, great food and cosy sofas, surrounded by plants and herbs. What more could you want!
Home to over 500 different types of herbs, each with their own qualities – there’s something for every need, from medicinal, cosmetic to culinary. On-site you’ll also find educational spaces in the school house for the wee ones who want to learn more about life amongst the herbs.
Dining at The Secret Herb Garden
At the heart of the Secret Herb Garden you’ll find it’s cafe. With a relaxed friendly environment only ever serving seasonal, home-made food, grown and produced on-site. A place to enjoy the surroundings and just exist in the moment. In the cafe there’s also a small shop selling products from the gardens, including honey, teas and freshly cut flowers. There’s also a small selection of crafts from local artists and makers.
There are several places to take a seat at the Secret Herb Garden. You can choose to keep a little cosier inside the cafe itself, or head outside into the greenhouse and surrounding sofa areas. On long rows of tables and vintage chairs, make yourself at home amongst the plants enjoying the fresh outdoor air.
A Magical Venue
The Secret Herb Garden is such a beautiful venue, to be enjoyed by different ages alike. Keep watch for any evening dinners hosted here to co-inside with the full moon, all inside a glass house setting with a banquet of locally sourced dishes. Count me in!
