7 Most Comfortable Slippers: Best Slippers for Women 2017

Whether you wear them with your robe in the morning, as a respite for tired feet in the evening, or all day around the house, chances are a pair of Slippers is part of your footwear wardrobe.  As with any other shoes that see daily wear, it’s worth finding ones that have features that make them comfortable and good for your feet. We set out to find a selection of the most comfortable slippers that offer good support, warmth and versatility.  We’re huge fans of comfortable slippers and know from personal experience how great some of these brands feel.    Most feature indoor/outdoor soles and are great for year-round wear, so they get extra points for versatility.   Check out our picks of the best women’s slippers and leave a comment if you have a favorite style of comfortable slippers – we love hearing from readers!

Comfortable Slippers: Giesswein Vent

Giesswein Vent (photo: Giesswein USA)

Best closed-back slipper: The Giesswein Vent Lodge slipper is an “orthopedic experience extraordinaire,” as described by a happy Zappos customer. A natural boiled wool upper keeps toes comfortably warm in winter but is breathable so you don’t have to worry about overheating, even in warmer weather.

If you need men’s or women’s slippers with arch support, look no further  – the best part about these Austrian-made slippers is their highly supportive, removable footbed. Keep it in for low to moderately high arches, remove and add your own orthotics for high arches. (The removable footbed also means they’re machine washable!)  A slip-resistant waterproof outsole allows for a quick trip to the mailbox or a once-around-the-block with the dog. Be advised: this slipper runs small. I recommend ordering a size or two from your normal European size. Available in European sizes 36-48 and in seven colors for $134 from Zappos, $76-149 from Amazon, and $133.95 from Jet.com.

Comfortable Slippers: Haflinger Lacey

Haflinger Lacey

Best “shoe” slipper: Haflinger Lacey. If you’re a Haflinger owner, I don’t need to sell you on their excellent support, generous toe box and overall comfort – you understand. But perhaps you’ve not seen a Haflinger so pretty before? The Lacey is the feminine version of the popular Grizzly model with its cut-out “lacey” detailing.

Based on personal experience, the Haflinger cork and latex midsole with enhanced arch support and deep heel cup is just what my feet need to absorb the shock of wood floors while keeping plantar fasciitis flares to a minimum. The rubber traction sole allows me to walk confidently outside to bring the trash cans in or even venture out on a quick grocery run.

If plush cushioning is what you’re after, you may want to consider one of our other recommendations. While the cork midsole is shock absorbing, there’s a sturdy feel to these slipper shoes. Available in European sizes 36-42 for $131.95  from Zappos,  $97-132 from Amazon, $134.95 at The Walking Company and $131.95 at Nordstrom.

There are other Haflinger women’s slippers in dozens of styles and many adorable patterns; check out their full line here.

Comfortable Slippers: Spenco Supreme Slide

Spenco Supreme Slide

Best slipper for heel pain: Spenco Supreme Slide. While either of the two slippers featured above will also help alleviate heel pain, dozens of reviews for the Spenco Supreme slide mention plantar fasciitis relief.  The Supreme Slide features Spenco’s Anti-pronation Total Support™ technology that promotes a healthy stride, promoting stability, alignment and motion control – and earns them a spot on our list of best women’s slippers.

Note: the lining is faux fur, which can bother some feet that overheat and sweat easily. Available for $79.95 from Zappos and $21-79.99 from Amazon.

Best cushioned slipper: Acorn Spa Wrap . If you prefer a slipper that feels like a warm teddy bear hug for your feet, this is it. However, for all its pillowy softness, this is no flimsy slipper. A fully contoured footbed made of molded CFC-free polyurethane offers moderate support for arches. A velcro strap allows for adjustability for a customized fit or in case feet swell while a bit of elastic gathering around the back prevents heel slippage. The upper is made of soft terry cloth.   Available in sizes S-XL (5-10.5). medium and wide widths for $45.95 at Zappos.

Comfortable Slippers: Keen Howser Wool Slide

Keen Howser Wool Slide

Best orthotic-friendly slipper: Keen Howser II Slide. What a cute slipper! A nice wide toe box accommodates bunions while a removable footbed allows for use of orthotics if necessary. A Zappos customer praises this slipper by Keen, “I struggle with mid-foot arthritis, plantar’s issues and a heel spur, and while I’ve been told to wear orthotics 24/7, I hate wearing a heavy shoe all the time. I bought these because they have a removable insole, a slightly higher back for a slide, and a soft. They are great with my orthotics in and very comfy.” The Keen Howser II slide is available in whole and half sizes 5-11 (even the hard-to-find 10.5) for $69.95-79.95 from Zappos and KeenFootwear.com; $38-56 at Amazon,

Comfortable Slippers: Abeo Halifax

Abeo Halifax

Best moccasin slipper: Abeo Halifax. Forget moccasin slippers that might be cute and warm, but offer little to no support. The Abeo Halifax offers plush coziness combined with built-in orthotics that custom fit to the specific arch type and contours of your feet. They may be one of the best women’s slippers with arch support. You select your ideal footbed type – either neutral,  which offers enhanced arch support for most foot types, or a metatarsal pad footbed which helps relieve ball-of-foot pain often associated with Morton’s Neuroma or metatarsalgia.  A genuine shearling lining wicks away moisture and the rubber outsole can be worn indoors or out.  Available in sizes 6-11 for $84.95 from The Walking Company.

Comfortable Slippers: Sorel Nakiska Slide

Sorel Nakiska Slide

Best slipper slide: Sorel Nakiska Slide.  You may be familiar with Sorel’s popular boots, but did you know they also make slippers? The Sorel Nakiska Slide gets literally hundreds of five-star online reviews, many from people with plantar fasciitis, tailor’s bunions and other foot issues who think it’s one of the most comfortable slippers they’ve tried.  The Sorel Nakiska has good arch support, a roomy toe box, and a plush wool blend lining.  Available in sizes 5-12 for $70 from Sorel.com,  Zappos and Shoes.com. If you have trouble keeping slides on your feet, consider the Sorel Nakiska slipper, which has similar styling and features but comes up higher on the heel.
