This fall, one of Germany's most iconic brands, Wellensteyn, quietly opened it's first US location at the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets! I was lucky enough to be able to check out the industrial-style space early in December and test out their uber-warm coats for myself!
Located in the back of the complex (closest to the Welcome Center for those of you who don't fancy a long walk), Wellensteyn has a large, cool space. You walk in and immediately feel like you're on the docks in the arctic and want to jump right in to trying on their stylish but functional jackets. The company actually began as a workwear brand for deep-sea fishing in Germany over sixty years ago. If the line can stand up to those harsh conditions and keep German fisherman warm than you know you'll be more than fine battling Boston snow!

Unlike other luxury, winter lines Wellensteyn uses a synthetic fur for it's trim so there's no need to feel guilty, but it's so fluffy and soft that you might do a double take! As soon as I put on the Seawolf style, I felt enveloped in warmth plus, it has a ton of pockets for necessities. I felt like I could trek the German Alps or survive the apocolypse in this coat...neither of which I'm planning on doing but it's nice to know I have the option.
I settled on the uber-feminine Darling coat in black because I loved the removable black fur cuffs and trim. It's a little bit longer, so it can masquerade as a dressy coat on frigid nights but I can also wear it to dig my car out of 15 foot snow banks created by Somerville's lovely plow system. Plus, it's machine washable. If that's not a Christmas Eve miracle, I don't know what is!
