October 3, 2016, Amun Jadid or Islamic New Year, is a holiday in some parts of the Philippines

Amun Jadid or Islamic New Year falls on October 3, 2016, Monday. 

Pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 1083, otherwise known as “Code of Muslim Personal Laws in the Philippines, Amun Jadid is recognized as a Muslim Legal Holiday. 

Under PD No. 1083, Amun Jadid shall be observed as a holiday in the following provinces: Basilan, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte; and in the cities of Cotabato, Iligan, Pagadian and Zamboanga.

All Muslim government and officials in places other than the aforementioned shall also be excused from reporting to office in order that they maybe able to observe the holiday.

Islamic New Year 2016 corresponds to Muharram 1, 1438 in Hijrah Calendar.
