What are Chinese people Afraid of? Web-based Baidu Knows recently published a survey enumerating the top 10 fears of the Chinese people. For men, most were afraid of poverty, while women were most afraid of getting old.
According to the Yangtse Evening Post, statistics showed that while the concerns and phobias of men and women differed, their worries were not a problem at all in the eyes of the opposite sex. Among the top 10 fears of men, age and appearance were not included. Meanwhile, women didn’t pay any concern to their economic situation.
Men said they were worried about setbacks in their careers; they were afraid of picking the wrong side and being compared with others. Women were generally worried about their love affairs. In particular, they dreaded being cheated on by their husbands or boyfriends, and lacked a sense of security.
The survey also measured fears about relationships and marriage. There was a surprising gender divide: while 70 per cent of women were afraid of getting married, only 30 per cent of men were. Married or not, men and women were both afraid of a partner’s change of heart.
