كما هو معتاد مع بداية كل عام، تظهر نظريات تزعم نهاية العالم خلال شهر أو سنة محددة، ومع بداية عام 2017 توقع الكاتب "David Meade" مؤلف "Planet X – The 2017 Arrival" أن النجم الذى اسماه "التوأم الثنائى لشمسنا" سيجلب معه 7 أجسام أخرى من ضمنها كوكب أزرق يحمل اسم "نيبيرو" وستندفع هذه الأجسام نحو الأرض، وتؤدى إلى نهايته، وفقا للتقارير.

أما المجتمع العلمى فلا يتفق مع وجود "نيبيرو"، كما صرحت ناسا من قبل أن نيبيرو وغيره من القصص المتعلقة بالكواكب الضالة هى خدعة على الإنترنت ولا أساس لها من الصحة.
But The scientific community is not consistent with the existence of "Nibiru", as stated by NASA that Nibiru and other stories about stray planets is a hoax on the Internet and it's not unfounded.
