Hi-Tech Dornier Aircraft, Torpedo, Protection Vehicles Among The Things India Has Exported In The Last Three Years: MoD

India has exported a lot of important things in the last three years, including Dornier aircraft, lightweight torpedoes, weapon-locating radar, and Mortar Armoured Protection vehicles.

The Union Ministry of Defence has shared information about this (MoD).

“India’s biggest exports over the past three years have been a lightweight torpedo, Dornier aircraft, weapon-locating radar, fast patrol vessel (FPV), 120mm mortar armoured protection vehicle, 0.338 Lapua magnum sniper rifle, and simulators,” the MoD said in a written reply to Lok Sabha on Friday.

As part of its plans to modernise the military, India has also bought a lot of big weapons.

The Ministry said that in the last three years, India has bought THeMIS Unmanned Ground Vehicles, loitering munitions, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, armoured vehicles, machine guns, and close-in weapon systems.

According to official data, India exported defense-related goods worth about Rs 1,387 crore in the first quarter of the financial year 2022-23. (April-June). During the financial year 2021-22, the value of defence exports was Rs 12,815 crore.

Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt gave this information in a written reply to Rajya Sabha in August of this year. He said that over the past few years, the government has taken a number of policy steps and made reforms to encourage the design, development, and manufacturing of defence equipment in the country. This has helped the country become more self-sufficient in defence manufacturing and technology.

Among the initiatives are the Defense Acquisition Procedure (DAP)-2020, which gives priority to buying capital items from domestic sources, the announcement of 18 major defence platforms for industry-led design and development, and the liberalisation of foreign direct investment (FDI) policy, which lets 74% of foreign investment happen through the automatic route, among other things.

The government also suggested making two defence industrial corridors, one in Uttar Pradesh and one in Tamil Nadu.

Also, to cut down on imports by Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), Department of Defence Production (DDP), the ministry published two lists of sub-systems, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components that are made in India. The first list has 2,851 items, of which 2,500 have already been made in-country. The second list has 107 Line Replacement Units/major sub-assemblies that are strategically important and have been made in-country.

All of these lists are available to the public on the website of the Ministry of Defense’s MoD/SRIJAN Defense portal. On these lists, there are a lot of different kinds of defence products, like Light Tanks, Helicopters, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, whose import would be banned after the dates listed next to them.

In October of this year, Rajnath Singh, India’s minister of defence, said that the country’s defence exports have grown by 334% in the last five years and are now sent to more than 75 countries.

He had said that the government had increased spending on defence capital by 18.75% from the year before in the annual budget for 2021-22.

Singh had said that this was the biggest raise in the last 15 years.
