The CEO of the Israeli defence company Rafael Advanced Systems said that their goal wasn’t just to make missiles in India, but also to export missiles made in India. This shows how strong the defence and diplomatic ties are between India and Israel. Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems (KRAS), a joint venture between Rafael and India’s Kalyani, makes parts for the Indo-Israeli Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM).

The Indian Army and Air Force use the MRSAM missile, which has a range of 70 km and can shoot down jets, drones, helicopters, and incoming missiles, among other things. The front end of the missile, which has the seeker and other important electronics, is called the missile kit or the mid-section.
In 2019, KRAS got an order to supply 1000MRSAMs with midsections. This deal was worth $100mn. Tuesday, the 100th kit from this batch was sent to the Indian Armed Forces from the KRAS facility in the Indian city of Hyderabad.

Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Yoav Har-Even, President and CEO of Rafael Advanced Systems, spoke at the event. He said that for more than 25 years, their company has been providing a range of services in India. He said that Rafael has been working with the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and government-run defence firms.
He talked about the KRAS joint venture’s goals for the future and said that they wanted to deliver the 1000th MRSAM midsection and the 500th Spike Anti-Tank Guided missile. He also said that because of the strategic relationship between Israel and India, their company is now putting more of its attention on India.
“Want to make this company a real missile house and give the military modern, high-quality weapons to protect the country. He also said that the Kalyani group was very strong in artillery, ammunition, armoured vehicles, small arms, electronics, and other areas.
He said that the Kalyani group was the first private company in India to get permission to send 155mm artillery guns out of the country. He was hopeful that the Indian defence industry could even do better than the Government of India’s estimate for exports if it got more orders like these.
