Rajnath Singh Says That The Country Is Building Its Second Aircraft Carrier After INS Vikrant

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that work on the country’s second Aircraft Carrier has begun. This comes after the successful launch of the country’s first aircraft carrier, the INS Vikrant, in September.

He praised the successful launch of the INS Vikrant at an event on Friday, saying that India is the seventh country in the world to build an aircraft carrier.

“Before India got its independence, not even a needle was made there. We are making a huge aircraft carrier like the INS Vikrant by 2022. We have also started building our second aircraft carrier “he added.

The Defense Minister says that a few years ago, no one would have thought India could do something like this. India is the seventh country to build an aircraft carrier, after the US, UK, France, Germany, China, and Japan.

Defense Minister Singh said that the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier is 73–74% made by Indian workers. India has two aircraft carriers right now. The INS Vikramaditya was made in Russia, and the 40,000-ton INS Vikrant was made in India.

Last week, Navy chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar said that the Navy was thinking about a second order for INS Vikrant to take advantage of the country’s expertise.

Kumar said that the Navy had not yet made up its mind about whether or not to build the indigenous aircraft carrier-2, a heavier ship that can carry 65,000 tonnes.

Under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, the Defense Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked businesses to “Make in India” and “Make for the World.”

He said that Tata-Airbus had laid the groundwork in India for making the C-295 transport aircraft, which will also be sent to other countries. Singh said that this year’s defence exports had already reached Rs 14,000 crore and were expected to reach Rs 19,000 crore by the end of 2023.

Also, the Defense Minister said that India has set a goal of exporting Rs 25,000 worth of weapons by 2024-25.
