What happened to Imran Khan?

Media reports say that Imran Khan was hit by a bullet when an unidentified gunman opened fire on the truck he was riding in during a protest rally in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Geo TV footage shows that Khan, who is 70 years old, was hit in the right leg. The channel said that he has been moved to a hospital and is no longer in danger. Fawad Chaudhry, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf , Three other leaders were also hurt.

What the alleged assailant said

In a video that Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir posted online, a man who said he was the attacker said he wanted to kill Imran Khan because the former prime minister is “misleading people.”

“I wanted to kill him (Imran Khan) because he was lying to the people. I tried to shoot only him, not anyone else. When he left Lahore, I made the choice. “I did it by myself, no one else is involved,” the alleged shooter can be heard saying in the video.

Where was Imran Khan’s rally headed to?

The event took place near Allahwala Chowk in the Punjab town of Wazirabad. The long march started on October 28 in Lahore and will end on November 4 in Islamabad, the capital city. It will cover nearly 380 km in a week.

Why is Imran Khan’s rally being held?

Khan called the rally one of Pakistan’s “biggest freedom movements” and said he was marching to put pressure on the government to call elections right away. The move came a few days after Pakistan’s Election Commission banned Khan from public office for five years on the grounds that he had hidden the money he made from selling gifts he got from foreign leaders.

What does the police say on Imran Khan attack?

Geo TV said that one person was arrested at the scene and taken to a place where no one knows where. At the same time, the police moved Imran Khan from the container he was riding in at the time of the attack to a car that was safe from bullets.

What’s next for Pakistan?

It doesn’t look like Imran was hurt very badly. His party released a video of him standing up and waving to supporters with what looked like a smile on his face. On its official Twitter account, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf  he was “stable.”

Imran’s party member Imran Ismail told the Pakistani station “Bol TV” that the former prime minister had been shot “three to four” times in the leg. This may not have been true.

But the attack will make the already dangerous situation in Pakistan even worse. Sheikh Imtiaz Mehmood, asked “all workers and the public to go to Liberty Chowk (in Lahore) right away to protest the cowardly murderous attack on Chairman Imran Khan.”

There could be more violence, which could lead the military, which is the only institution in Pakistan that works right now, to step in. The generals could do anything from declare martial law to just take over the government.

Imran has been openly taunting and challenging the army for months. After the shooting, one of his party members, Shireen Mazari, tweeted that “string pullers” and “the Establishment” would be “held responsible by the nation.”
