At 82 years of age, Chautala clears Class 10 exam with 53.4 %

He wrote the exam through the NIOS in April this year.

In jail for 10 years in a corruption case, former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala has passed his Class 10 examination with second division (53.4 percent) at the age of 82 years.

Chautala was sentenced to 10 years in jail in 2013 for his role in the teachers’ recruitment scam along with song Ajay Singh Chautala. But the Indian National Lok Dal leader seems to have put his time in prison to good use by clearing his Class 10.

National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) chairman CB Sharma said Chautala was the oldest among the students and cleared the exam. The Indian Express reported that Chautala appeared for the exam at the centre set up for prisoners at Tihar Jail from April 6 to April 24. He appeared for social sciences, science and technology, Hindi, Indian culture and heritage and business studies exams in Hindi. He scored 267 marks of the total 500.

Chautala was the chief minister of Haryana four times with only the last being a full five-year term. The Indian National Lok Dal is the principal opposition party in Haryana and is led by Chautala’s other son, Abhay.
