Gurugram may get an inclusion in the ‘Smart City’ mission list

Good news for all the Gurugram residents! In a meeting which took place between Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Union housing and urban affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri, it has been decided that the cyber hub city may get an inclusion in the ‘Smart City’ mission list.

A press release was issued after the review meeting, in which Hardeep Singh Puri said an apex body would be constituted to look into the matter. A specific request has been made by Haryana CM to include Gurugram in the Smart City Mission, after which Puri gave the assurance to Khattar. While financial implications would be looked after by the state government, Centre will give its technical assistance wherever required.

The Union Minister also lauded on various steps which has been taken by Haryana government under various central flagship missions for urban development. Giving updates on central flagship missions, Kavita Jain, urban local bodies minister, Haryana said, “A survey was conducted in all 80 cities of the state under the Shehri Awas Yojana, and 3.23 lakh applications were received by the government. As many as 93 slums were selected in 20 towns, to be covered under the in-situ slum rehabilitation. The State-Level Sanctioning-Cum-Monitoring Committee (SLSMC) had given its approval to 65 towns, under the Housing for All Scheme and proposals for 56 towns were sent to the central government for approval.”

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for 77,511 beneficiaries in 66 towns was approved by the SLSMC, she further added.

Urban Local Bodies Department Principal Secretary Anand Mohan Sharan said, “The Centre had approved DPRs on 28 cities, submission of DPRs on 38 cities was underway. Apart from this, DPRs on 14 cities would be submitted by February 28.”

Focusing on the development of Gurugram, Urban Local Bodies Department Principal Secretary Anand Mohan Sharan said that the work of replacing street lights with LEDs had started in the city and would be completed by February 15.

Witnessing rapid urbanisation, Gurugram has become a leading financial and industrial hub with the third-highest per capita income in India. The city’s economic growth story started when the leading Indian automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited established its manufacturing plant in Gurgaon in the 1970s. And after the development of Indira Gandhi International airport, Gurgaon has never looked back. A residential and commercial hub, today, it is known as one of the most happening cities of Delhi NCR.
