I got to check out the new Mustang Mach E at this week’s South OC Cars and Coffee. This is Ford’s new Electric Mustang SUV that’ll complete with the Tesla Model Y. The new Ford vehicle is a SUV, it’s all electric, but is it a really a Mustang?

Although it shares a name and familiar styling cues with the Ford Mustang, the Mach E is completely unrelated. With two available battery sizes and either RWD or AWD, the Mach-E can provide up to 300 miles of driving range on a single charge. The five-passenger cabin is fitted with a cutting-edge infotainment system as well as some unique cargo and storage solutions.

Ford’s next-generation SYNC infotainment system uses machine learning to fully customize the driving experience. The software runs through a vertically mounted 15.5-inch touchscreen that allows for easy access to the system’s array of apps and features. A benefit of the system is that Ford will roll out over-the-air updates to constantly improving the system.

The Mustang Mach-E will be available with a standard-range (75.7 kWh) battery or an extended-range (98.8 kWh) pack. The most power model will offer 459 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque, which should propel the SUV from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds.

While purists might call an electric Mustang crossover sacrilegious, Ford expects the name and design adaptation to increase interest and help sell the car when it goes on sale.
