Wrath Of Man (2021)

It always ends with the city doesn't it? A rising panorama, as if that's the lair of true evil. That's the jungle. That's where savagery reigns still - out in the burbs life is all the more peaceful.

Guy Ritchie's starting to become one of my favorite directors lately, and in large part thanks to the grit. It's merciless, this movie, as with most of his, though maybe not with as many a memorable moment as there seemed to be in say The Gentleman.

The body plates and all were bad-ass, the firefight ferocious, but it lasted but a moment.

For the largest part the movie it's more so preparation, and re-occurring flashbacks to the death of the kid that you have trouble feeling sorry for since his dad never shows sorrow in a way other than wrath... you can definitely feel his pain in his determination, but who's to say he isn't always like that? That he's just violent and aggressive. I wouldn't have minded some redeeming factor, like a girl, to show that he was human after all. Or maybe beyond that to bring a little light and happiness into what is really an incredibly dark movie.

It seems to be a thing with heist movies though, and it does take me back to the classics, like Takers, or that other movie with De Niro and Al Pacino... Heat! Movies that were similarly awe-inspiring and impressively real and grimy but also a bit more depressing than I maybe like to see.

I feel like I oughta give this one a full five, but I don't really feel it.

And though he's good I just don't know if Scott Eastwood is as great an actor as his dad. I keep nitpicking his emotional showcase, or tone, or expression - feeling like maybe he tries to be too much like his father even though he's really not - he just looks the part, but maybe he is alright after all...

Overall it's a great movie. Just don't watch if you want something uplifting.

Oh and Post Malone?! I'm not sure he was the right choice for his role, just like I'm uncertain of Eastwood, but it was fun to see him included.

Guy Ritchie's got class.

 rated 4.5/5: almost awesome
