World's End might not have as much blood as Shaun of the Dead, or as much firepower as Hot Fuzz, but it complements the other two Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright-directed movies in this Trilogy quite well anyway, moving past grungy zombie slaughter, and deceptive countryside utopias, to a third kind of horror, the one from out of this world: aliens. It's like They Live (1988), but... not really. They pick bits and pieces from the genre and make something entirely new, and it all starts with one wild pub run, and reunion between old friends.

The main actors complement each other perfectly, and one strength that permeates not just this but all movies in the trilogy, is how they all seem like such a genuine group. The dialog is interesting, and there's a fluency in the script that feels both spontaneous and polished to a point further along the road to perfection than most similar movies out there. Maybe the script's just that great, or maybe the actors are. Whatever it is they manage to keep the talks almost as exciting as the action.

There's a bit little of that latter element in this one movie, but I don't mind. I might have the first time I watched this, but when I know what to expect, I can appreciate it for what it is: a grand adventure, and creative pint of parody pub run. The future of the world is at stake, but they don't really care, all they want is another beer. Great watch.
