From the very beginning startups must work well and react very quickly to that what’s happening around them. Some time ago you could read on our blog about 6 tools for Keyword research. Today we’ll deal with one of them, that is Long Tail Pro. You surely wonder what such a tool can have in common with a startup? It may have (but maybe not directly). If you have a closer look at this tool, you’ll see that it’s worth knowing something about it. You’ll find out what keywords should your service be promoted to or what keywords your competition uses.
What for and why to use “long tail”?
Frankly speaking, nowadays everybody has different results in Google. It results from the Google Personalized Search and changes in search engines. That is why it’s worth not only positioning your e-shop, using ‘long tail’ but also each website (especially when it has section with expert articles) . And here we’ve got Long Tail Pro. It’s one of the best filtering and keyword research tools. It’ll be useful for SEOs as well as for people, who create any content or manage AdWords.
Long Tail Pro from the very beginning
When you log into this tool, you may think that it doesn’t offer too many possibilities. Actually it’s not true. When you add first projects and complete them with data, you’ll see that this tool is much better than Google Keyword Planner itself. Of course at the beginning Google Keyword Planner is enough, but to get similiar data to those from Long Tail Pro you’ll need more time. What’s also important, once added projects are updated all the time.
Let’s see how it really works
The best way to check a particular tool is to use it. So let’s look at startups and create a new project ‘startup’.
Then we choose search engine (in this case google.com) and language – that is English. Next we add search queries. Let’s write ‘startup’. You can also define here additional parameteres. In a table we should see search queries connected with the word ‘startup’. Unfortunately in this case we don’t have too many results, however we have about 20, so we can already come to some conclusions.
In the table we can find the following information: the average number of times per month people have searched for the exact keyword, the suggested advertiser bid (in the case of AdWords), the total number of words in a particular keyword, the estimated monthly value of ranking and average KC (Keyword Competitiveness) . We can also take some actions here: updating or retrieving keyword competition data, getting 20 AdWords suggestions or removing any keyword from the list. To limit the list of results you can also exclude here words, so as to have clear data for export. Additionally, when we click on a particular keyword, competition analysis will be displayed. So we click on ‘startup’ and get the following results :
We are able now to assess our competition and see the websites which we should visit and get to know them better. In this table we also have some additional information, such as: site age, internal links, indexed URLs and so on. Thanks to these data we can define our competition and websites with which it’s worth starting to cooperate. I’d like to emphasize here one more thing. Above-mentioned example consists only of one word (startup). In more extended projects there will be more keywords. However the system is intelligent enough to offer keywords cohesion if they are properly connected.
How to use keywords in practice?
You still wonder how to use these keywords and phrases? I’ll show you the most important aspects:
- content marketing: when we have a set of generated keywords and a knowledge about search frequency, we can generate the list of topics that we can write about on our blog or website. If you don’t have ideas for new posts, it’s a method that is worth using.
- better match of advertising campaign: the better configurated advertising campaign the better results. It’s sometimes better to use other tools than Google Keyword Planner. Remember also that it’s important to exclude keywords that don’t convert.
- SEO: writing an article is half-success. It’s good when our article has SEO-friendly content and is full of proper phrases. Thanks to that you can expect valuable, organic traffic on your website and deal with additional promotion of your content in the Internet.
As you can see, thanks to Long Tail Pro you’re able to define what phrases you can use in your startup and additionally you can track your competition. The word ‘startup’ isn’t too representative for ‘long tail’, because mostly queries with this word appear in phrases which contain 3 words. However it’s enough to write other, for example ‘Internet monitoring’ or ‘how to do’ and we get more results. Everything depends on the branch you are in or you want to exist.
