Like many early-stage entrepreneurs, Partpic founder Jewel Burks is busy---and that’s putting it lightly. Juggling her full-time position at Google and working on her visual recognition technology startup means the millennial CEO has little downtime. But that doesn’t mean she has no time to recharge.
In fact, her role as diversity evangelist at Google is more than a job. She gets fulfillment in helping small businesses across the country upkeep their online presence using Google tools.
“I have the opportunity to help different business owners, mainly Black and Hispanic business owners, to harness the power of the web and take the business they’ve had for 20 years and help them put it online.”
Her willingness and desire to help isn’t new for Burks. It’s a characteristic that’s evident within her family structure as the eldest of five children. She values her relationship with her younger siblings tremendously and tries to spend quality time with them anytime she can.
Burks looks forward to quality time spent with her four younger brothers. “I try to get to baseball games and basketball games,” says the 25-year-old. The magnitude evident in her voice.
She’s also very passionate about traveling. Burks has a goal to get to as many places as she can; most recently went to South Africa for the first time several weeks ago.

With 2015 just a few weeks away, the young innovator and team have lots in store, including fundraising, expanding the team and bringing on more clients. But Burks also has her eyes on the things that keep her grounded: family and travel.

Persistence, perseverance and passion have all supported Partpic Founder and CEO Jewel Burks on her current journey. As nearly any startup founder will tell you, the road is less traveled for a reason. It’s not easy, but definitely well worth it. The 25-year-old Howard University graduate jumped right into the workforce post graduation, landing gigs at Google and McMaster-Carr. Those positions and companies laid the foundation for the millennial exec to create the solution for finding and ordering parts.
