WhatsApp will end support to BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7.1 and other older operating systems

WhatsApp announced in a blog post few days back that they are ending support for BlackBerry and other Older Operating Systems. WhatsApp is the best communication platform available at the moment and is used by many for communication with friends and family. WhatsApp turned seven recently and as part of the future plans WhatsApp has decided to not support the not so popular or older operating systems, the support will end by the end of the 2016. The operating systems for which support ends include BlackBerry (including BlackBerry 10), Android 2.1 and 2.2, Windows Phone 7.1, Nokia Symbian S40 and S60.

WhatsApp in a blog post says at the beginning of the WhatsApp Android, iOS and Windows Phone had less share and at that time Nokia and BlackBerry dominated the smartphone market with about 75 percent share. But today the reality is different, Android, iOS and Windows 8 and up devices account for 99.5 percent of the smartphone market. WhatsApp says those operating systems for which support is ending don’t offer the kind of capabilities it needs to expand WhatsApp features.

WhatsApp says this decision is tough to make but it is necessary to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends and family. If your using any of the affected operating systems and want to use WhatsApp the best option is to upgrade to an Android, iOS or a Windows Phone. Android devices are very cheap now a days and it doesn’t harm to keep one for WhatsApp.
