Courage does not always roar.
Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying
I will try again tomorrow.

 Ever had one of those days where you feel like you’ve been whipped and beaten? Where every decision ran into a brick wall, and you just can’t seem to gain any traction? I think we all have. We go home on those days and wonder where we will get the energy and strength to do it all again tomorrow.

I’ve had an entire quarter of that feeling, and it culminated in a an anticlimactic start to the new year. And for a week I’ve wondered why I do these things I do, if anyone really appreciates it, and whether I am making the best use of my skills and talents doing what I do.

I started wondering if I was even the right person to be doing it at all. Surely there are people in my company better suited, both in skill-set and in personality, for this role I am currently filling. Then I realized what the problem was. I had lost Courage.

Courage isn’t being strong and fearless, it’s about picking yourself up, keeping going when the going is tough, when it tries your patience and confidence the most. The most courageous of us all aren’t standing at the front roaring with fearless gusto, they are at the back of the room, quietly resolving to keep going. They are the ones who show up each day, quietly and efficiently doing their best, sometimes without anyone even stopping to thank them or appreciate their efforts. But yet there they are again tomorrow, doing the same.

I need to get my courage back. You need to keep your courage. Keep going, keep striving, do it for yourself, knowing you are the true lion.

At the end of that rotten day when you feel defeated, stop and listen for that quiet voice…

I will try again tomorrow.
