Climate Change at the Sub-National Level

FEBRUARY 18, 2017

MILTON, MA – Climate Scorecard compiled a comprehensive report on combating climate change at the subnational level. This critical work focuses on the oft-underseen work being done on a micro scale to have a micro impact on environmentalism globally.

Climate Scorecard is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that tracks the efforts of implementing The Paris Agreement in the top 25 greenhouse gas emitting countries. Recent developments in many of these countries call into question their ability to meet the provisions set by The Paris Agreement. Politics and economics are making the ability to implement change questionable.

But on the subnational level, there is tremendous innovation in those same countries. Aggressive and impressive emission reduction efforts are underway, with measurable – and scalable – impact.

Climate Scorecard’s latest report highlights these efforts, including efforts ranging from hydrogen powered urban transportation systems in the cities of Aberdeen and Bristol in the UK to the use of waste heat from power plants for home energy use in Hebei Province in China.

“We find there is tremendous interest in the impact of subnational efforts, and that is why we’re so excited to share this report,” said Ron Israel, Climate Scorecard Director.
