Currently, we have done a test about VyprVPN in Changsha City, Hunan Province, China. And we plan to do a larger update once the Great Firewall gets bigger. But at present VyprVPN works smoothly in China and we enjoy it.

Living in China, bypassing the Great Firewall is a way of life. But it is not easy to find a consistent China VPN services. Many VPN providers get their services blocked in China. Is VyprVPN currently a good VPN for China? Let’s take a look.

User Interface

There are several minutes of install time to be endured. We installed VyprVPN on Windows for the purposes of this article, and the entire installation took five minutes. Moreover, the windows version asked you to download a Microsoft.NET framework. We were a little disappointed about this and we hope this problem can be solved in future. But it is not a big problem because you only have to setup once. And its good service is worth installing the first time.

Server Locations

VyprVPN doesn’t provide many servers, only 51 server locations are available. And usually there are 30 of them really work, others either time out or just can’t be connected. But we have to clarify that this is normal circumstance in China. China may be public enemy number one when it comes to internet censorship, many VPN providers like Astrill and freegate have got their services completely blocked in China. VyprVPN’s services are decent and had never been completely blocked by the Great Firewall like other VPN providers did. For most of us, this isn’t so much of a concern.

Fast Speed

Now is the big question, How fast is the VPN Service VyprVPN? In short, pretty fast. The fastest servers in our tests are asian servers. We can usually get 4 mbps through the Hong Kong servers, though at peak hours it can be a bit slower. Here is our internet benchmarks:4 mbps (China Mobile, Changsha), which is about equal to that of the China average. As you can see, VyprVPN allows our usable bandwidth to come close to the maximum speed of the internet benchmarks.

VyprVPN’s latency (ping time) is a little high, even though the transfer rate is good. But we think the latency can be a negligible issue for most of us. With VyprVPN, surfing the web is fast, and 720p HD YouTube video can play smoothly. We never encountered any random disconnections.

Protocols

As you can see below, there are four protocols available: Chameleon, OpenVPN(256-bit, 160-bit), L2TP/IPsec and PPTP. Tests we’ve conducted have shown that PPTP 128-bit encryption is the fastest, followed by the Chameleon 256-bit encryption. Since OpenVPN is partially blocked by China, and it doesn’t work well for us, we had trouble connect to some server locations. Besides, PPTP is lack of security. We personally think the Best Protocol is Chameleon, at least for the users in China.

Chameleon is their propriety software which prevents VPN blocking and throttling but still provides fast speeds. Chameleon is proven to help users in China from being blocked. Even when we connected with Chameleon the speed loss was hardly noticeable.

Some Other Features

  • Allows P2P/bittorrent
  • No logs
  • NAT Firewall
  • Free Dump Truck Online Storage

Pricing & Special Offer

VyprVPN is a good service, but the price is a little expensive. It offers 3 different packages. The basic account is $6.67 a month and the pro is only $8.33. We at BestVPNChina.net are proud to offer a Chinese special offer for all customers! With our special offer, you can save 25% on all three plans.

The basic account is lack of security with only one PPTP connection. And the premier account may be too expensive. The Pro account is a little pricey, but wethink the money is well worth it. They offer a 3 days free trial, you will not be billed until your free trial has expired. You can have a try with no risk.

Conclusion

What we like about VyprVPN:

  • Decent speeds
  • Easy to use
  • 3 days free trial
  • Good user interface
  • Chameleon technology prevents VPN blocking.

What we don’t like about VyprVPN:

  • High latency (ping times)
  • Installation can be cumbersome

Overall, We personally think VyprVPN is worth buying. Our VyprVPN experience was smooth and we enjoyed it. It is a VPN we love a lot, and we prefer its pro subscription. It provides fantastic speeds and good technologies that will please those who want fast and consistent China VPN services. It is a good VPN service for China but with some server locations and Ping times concerns you should very carefully consider before going ahead with.
