32 Terms From the “Project Collaboration Lexicon” (bet you can’t guess #10)

Here are 32 terms from the “Project Collaboration Lexicon” that’ll make you sound like you know it all.

  1. Actor: Anyone involved in the implementation of a project
  2. Collaborator: Anyone involved in the execution of a project.
  3. Activity: First level of homogeneous grouping of tasks. The tasks of an activity can be performed sequentially or in parallel.
  4. Resource Allocation: The process of ensuring that the resources required for the project are made available.
  5. Project Manager: The person responsible for achieving the project’s objectives in accordance with the desired quality level, time and cost restrictions and in compliance with the company’s rules and regulatory procedures. Their responsibility is exercised from start to finish and covers all disciplines (from requirements to deployment and balance sheet).
  6. Work Committee:An operational body, established for the duration of the project.
  7. Coordination Committee: Steering Committee composed of internal and external people (see Steering Committee).
  8. Executive Committee or COMEX: Strategic body representing the general management for all projects.
  9. Operational Committee: Project Committee composed of internal and external people (see Project Committee).
  10. Steering Committee or COPIL: A strategic forum, COPIL is the arbitration and decision-making body of the project.
  11. Committee project or COPROJ: Operational unit which brings together the various internal operational managers of the company within the project.
  12. Contributors: All the people involved in the project (survey interviewees, working groups, monitoring committees, consultants, etc. )
  13. Decision-maker: Person mandated to make decisions about an action, to make them known and to enforce them.
  14. Project team: The group of people who are assigned to the multitude of tasks that make up a project.
  15. Expert: Contributing person who brings professional expertise to the project.
  16. Project Management:A set of coordinated and controlled activities with start and end dates, undertaken to achieve an objective that meets specific requirements.
  17. Performance Indicator (KPI): Indicator measuring a critical success factor of the project. It is essential to the project’s decision-maker.
  18. Kick-off Meeting: The kick off meeting is the initial meeting of the project to set the wheels of the project in motion.
  19. Knowledge Management: All the different ways to manage and develop the company’s Human Capital.
  20. Launch: Project start-up phase.
  21. Matrix of responsibilities: Description of the reciprocal expectations between the project actors for each task to be carried out.
  22. Resource leveling: Reordering of planned activities, taking into account sequential logic and resource availability constraints.
  23. Objective: A goal to be achieved through the project outcome.
  24. Steering: The process of ensuring that the project/program meets expectations, both in terms of its functional and nonfunctional objectives (stakes, costs, deadlines, etc.)
  25. Provider: An external entity that the company uses to carry out certain activities or provide certain services.
  26. Process: A chain of activities performed over time in order to fulfill an objective.
  27. Resources: The required personnel, software, equipment, finance, materials, workspaces to implement a project.
  28. Sponsor: Client or client representative.
  29. Dashboard: A management tool comprised of indicators such as cost, schedule, scope, risks and issues which show the health of a project.
  30. Task:Elementary work unit (list, qualify, verify, etc.).
  31. Videoconferencing: Characterized by the ability to transmit in real time interactive images and sound (video) from one site to one or more remote sites and allows synchronous communication.
  32. Workshop: A group of people gathering to discuss and perform activities for the sake of learning about a particular subject.
