Dubai: One of the most iconic malls in the city underwent a significant alteration, which is shown in two images taken by a resident of Dubai.

The famous ‘The’ of The Dubai Mall is missing in the pictures. Over 14 years after it originally opened to the public, the shopping center has abandoned its ‘The’ and is now simply known as “Dubai Mall.”

Kenyan Zahra Khimji, a worker at a retail store in the mall, informed the press that she noticed of the name change over the weekend. “I was waiting after work when I saw the name of the mall changed. I was pretty sure I had a photo of the mall’s name with the ‘The’. I browsed through my phone and, sure enough, I had one that I clicked during the holy month of Ramadan.”

The two comparison pictures were uploaded on her Instagram account. Her friend uploaded the pictures as an Instagram story, which, according to Zahra, went viral.

Through a TikTok video, the mall first revealed its new name in January of this year. The shopping mall had posted on TikTok, “New name but still your fave mall,”

The names of the mall’s social media accounts also reflect the modification. The account names do not include the article “the,” even though the handles do. Though its URL still has the article, it is not visible on the mall’s official website either.

Although the change in name has not been explained, #bigchanges was one among the hashtags used in the mall’s TikTok video.

The mall is the biggest destination in the world for shopping, entertainment, and leisure, according to Visit Dubai. Located next to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, the mall features 1,200 retail stores, two major department stores, and hundreds of food and beverage establishments. It is more than 1 million square meters, or 200 football fields, making it the largest mall in the world in terms of total land area.
