The emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) keeps a close eye on commuter demands and offers more practical transportation options, even though flying taxis may soon be hovering above the city.
Residents and visitors can book a seat on a bus with just a few taps on one service, which the RTA refers to as the “ultimate ticket to hassle-free trips.”
This transportation option, known as “Bus on Demand,” runs close to Al Barsha (1, 2, and 3), Al Nahda, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Academic City.
According to the RTA website, “You can book the service individually or as a group, and travel within the same zone from where you started the journey.”
Similar to ordering a cab, you enter your starting point and destination, and the app notifies you of the time the bus will arrive, the spot where you should board, and the time you will arrive at your drop-off locations.
The service is not only clever and effective, but also reasonably priced. Passengers will only be required to pay Dh5, and if they are traveling in a group, only Dh4 per extra passenger.
Here’s how it operates and how to book it:
- Download Dubai Bus on Demand, a smart app.
- Become a member of the service.
- Enter your payment information (you may use a nol or credit card).
- The bus’s location, available seats, arrival time, and the estimated travel time to the desired destination within the zone of operation are all specified in the app.
- Check the collection and drop-off details before booking the service.
- On the app, users can make payments using a credit card or a nol card, which must be tapped on the onboard devices.
- Wait for the bus at the appointed hour, board it, and have pleasure in your journey.
The RTA made it clear that passengers could only travel inside the same zone as where their excursion began. “The service area of each zone is provided in the smart app. Separate bookings are required for each trip within a certain zone,” it added.
