Sonic The Hedgehog is back and faster than ever! In this latest installment of the Sonic series, Sonic must once again save the world from Dr. Robotnik. This time, Sonic has a new ally in the form of Tails, who helps him navigate through treacherous levels at breakneck speeds. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has higher resolution graphics than the original Sonic, and new moves, like the spin dash.

Thanks to the incredible Super FX chip, which generates more than 16 million colors, you’ll see jagged polygons disappear as your eyes fill in the missing pixels. Manic game action results in madly-blurring objects and it all looks smooth as silk on your TV screen.

You have to get through levels as quickly as possible while collecting rings, drowning bombs and defeating enemies to get a higher score while avoiding Dr. Robotnik(or Dr Eggman). In this game your goal is to get through the levels as quickly as possible while collecting all red rings and getting a higher score, while avoiding Dr. Robotnik (or Dr Eggman). You can perform a spin dash by pressing down which also allows you to destroy enemies if hit in the head.  There are several different weapons that come with Sonic’s shoes: sonic bomb, chaos ball and speed shoes. Besides all of these you have Sonic’s super gloves which are used for punching and kicking enemies. The levels are also filled with objects like bombs and spinning spikes, so keep your eyes open for any spots where you can duck under them or destroy them.

What inspired the development of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Series gameplay mechanics?

This series is inspired by Sonic The Hedgehog and it’s sequel (Sonic 3). But this series is also inspired by the video game Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks which is a fighting video game. But I’m also inspired by the movie Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. This strange inspiration is also inspired by the famous movie “The Exorcist”.

Who was your first choice of voice actors for Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Series?

The first choice actor I wanted to choose for Sonic was Ben Schwartz from his character from his show, House of Cosby. His voice is perfect for this series and it would be more popular than a Sega character being played by someone who doesn’t even know how to speak English properly, so I chose him as my first choice and cast him as Sonic.

How did the team come up with the idea for new characters  in Sonic The Hedgehog?

I came up with new characters that are related to Sonic and the people around in the series. Knuckles is one of those characters who is very much related to Sonic because he is his best friend and they both have a lot in common. But Knuckles also has his own background story, more like Spider Man, making him an original character from another planet who was brought to Mobius by Dr. Robotnik.

What were some of the challenges faced during development?

The first challenge was to find the right way to record the voices for Sonic The Hedgehog 2. But after I recorded all of them, I had to start editing the audio files because they sound like the characters are talking in a different language, not English. So I went back to my recording studio and recorded them again in a better way. 

After that I had to convert all of them into MP3 and OGG files ready for use in my soon to be released trailer , and then mix them together with my favorite music from The Punisher (2004 Marvel film).

How did the music contribute to setting the tone and atmosphere for each level?

The music really contributed to setting the tone and atmosphere for each level because, if I would choose the right music, it would give the player a better feeling of what to expect, so I chose The Punisher 2004 OST which is also inspired by The original theme tune of Sonic The Hedgehog.

How did you create the trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Series?

I used Adobe After Effects and it is a video preparation program that gives me full control over every single aspect of my videos. It also allows me to edit video files from different formats and add different effects like audio visualizations along with lighting effects, camera movements and graphic animations.
