How to Make Money Online

Did you know that it is both easier and more lucrative to make Money online than ever before?

In fact, many people are actively making more money online than they were on their previous jobs.

They wake up, enjoy their mornings (or afternoons if they are the late sleepers), open their laptops, and make a living from their living room (no pun intended).

But the question is how?

What are they doing to make money online and how can you do the same?

There are countless ways to make money online – certainly more than 100 odd and end opportunities.

In this post, we will explore all the options for what is likely the one area with the largest base of opportunity for making money online – Writing.

For this topic, we will break it down into its two main categories – entrepreneurial and working for others.

Part one of this post series will focus on the first – entrepreneurial. Part two will focus on writing for others.

But don’t worry, if you want to make money online doing something other than writing, we will explore those options in part three of this series of posts about how to make money online.

But for now – writing. And more specifically, how to make money online doing it for yourself.

1. Write Your Own eBook

Writing an eBook is seriously one of the most simply processes. Here is a quick guide that will help you do it efficiently – both in terms of time and costs.

            -Write the book.

-Download Grammarly or Prowriting Aid and edit the book with the software.

-Have a few friends read and edit.

-Get a cover designed on Fiverr.

-Type in How to Format an eBook and follow guided instructions.

-Open Amazon account and publish your eBook.

-Use social media and other outlets to let people know about your book.

Of course, you can have it edited through Fiverr and/or you can do the cover yourself. It all depends on your skill set. But even if the only skill you have is to just write the book, you can get everything else done for less than $20 bucks.

It is seriously simple, and in some cases, extremely lucrative.

2. Start You Own Blog

Starting your own blog will provide you with exposure and will help you to get your content to a wide range of readers. Like writing an eBook, producing your own blog is actually very simple.

Here is how to do it:

-Select a platform such as Weebly, WordPress, TypePad, etc.

-Watch a few tutorial videos on YouTube about how to work the platform.

-Purchase a domain name for about $25 a year.

-Write your posts (or pay someone else to write them).

-Add pictures to your posts – if you want to. (Most people say you should but there are successful bloggers who don’t bother with this. See Seth Godin’s blog for an example.)

-Read a few tips about successful blogging from other blogs and implement the ideas as you go.

            -Keep producing consistent content.

3. Establish a Freelance Writing Business

This is sort of a blend between the entrepreneurial and the work for others concept we will explore in our follow post, but, financially, it falls more into the first category than the second.

The concept is to establish yourself as a professional writer and then to write directly for good clients who pay you for your quality work. The process, like the first two ideas, is simple.

Here is the right way to make money online:

-Decide on a niche. Most clients will not want a professional writer who writes about anything and everything. They want someone who has personal experience in their field and who has the quality skills of a writer to write about it. Contrary to popular opinion, you can have more than one niche. You certainly have more than one skill. But you won’t do well to present yourself as having 10. The key is to distinguish between your experienced skills and your areas of interests. Skills in which you have personal experience are niches. Areas of interests are best left for your own blog and table talk with your friends on Friday nights, at least as far as paying clients are concerned.

-Establish a portfolio of samples. This can be things you’ve written for others with their permission to use as samples and/or samples you simply write for the purpose of building your portfolio. Any client worth collaborating with will expect to see high quality pieces of your writing before engaging in a business contract with you for your services.

-Build your website. This is your landing page to which you will direct your potential clients. You should include a brief bio with a picture, so potential clients can get a feel for who you are. Have a tab leading to your portfolio. Also include an endorsement tab listing what previous clients have said about you and your work.

-Find high-quality good paying clients to work for. The easiest place to start is on Job Boards such as ProBlogger. However, you do need to weed out the majority of these offers because they may fit the “client” profile but not necessarily the “high-quality” or “good-paying” portion. Now, “high-quality” and “good-paying” are subjective. You have to decide what who meets those standards. But the key to success in this field is landing jobs with clients who are professionals and understand the value of quality written content as it pertains to the success of their brands. The second approach is to look for, and pitch potential clients you find on the web. This is where you will find your best clients over time. The results of this are well worth the effort.

-Keep your integrity. This point may seem unnecessary. However, it is actually the most important. Integrity is vital to anything we do in life. It also applies to the first two options on this blog post. But it is extremely important in regards to establishing yourself as a professional freelance writer with private clients. Integrity means several things in this field. Here is a good list to apply:

  • Do not plagiarism or resell content. You are being paid to produce (not imitate) high quality content. Produce it consistently.
  • Deliver work on time. You are being paid to provide someone else consistent posts, a book on a deadline, etc. Turn your work in before its due and your clients will never stress about whether you will deliver or not.
  • Be honest. If a payment did not properly process, let the client know. But if it did, don’t try to act as if it didn’t. In a nutshell, never lie, especially to someone who is paying you their hard-earned money to perform a job for them.
  • Stick to the agreement. If the client says, I want 1,000 words per post and I will pay you $100 for the post, then expect two things and two things only. Expect to write at least 1,000 words. Not 999. Not 990. Write 100. And expect to be paid $100. If you decide to go over and the client accepts the post. That’s great! Give them quality. But don’t try to change the price on the client after the agreement was made. Simply do and expect exactly what the two of you agreed upon at the start.
  • Keep your word. All of these can be summed up in this main point. Do what you say you will do. In this business, your word is your bond. It is your contract. Keep it, and your clients will happily continue to do business with you in the future.

All in all, you can make a lot of money online writing for yourself.

But stay tuned, in the second post of this series, we will explore ways we can make money writing online if doing it from the entrepreneurial perspective isn’t your cup of tea.
