HC flays govt over slow pace on citizenship

Jodhpur: Expressing anger over the failure in submitting progress Report about the pendency of Citizenship to the Pak Hindu migrants, the Rajasthan High Court on Thursday warned the additional advocate general to submit report either on next hearing or bring home secretary.
Surprisingly on asking by the court that why the report was not submitted, the AAG K L Thakur said that the CID has neither been providing exact figure of the migrants nor the number that how many cases of citizenship have been lying pending.
It may be recalled that in a suo motto cognizance of the large pendency of the citizenship applications and VISA extension applications, the high court had sought the figure that how many migrants have been awaiting citizenship despite having eligibility and submitting applications for the same and had sought a progress report in the same.
“It is shocking that government has no figure of the pending citizenship cases:, commented the division bench headed by justice Sangeet Lodha directing the AAG to either submit the report by next hearing or be ready to present Home Secretary to give reply that why the progress report could not have been produced in the court.
Arguing on the issue, amicus curie Kamal Dave said that many applications pertaining to the long term and short term visa extensions as well as citizenship are pending and the CID has not been clearing them. Source : timesofindia
