Malfunctioning EVMs, VVPATs changed after complaint

AHMEDABAD: There were reports of widespread Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) being tampered with, even in the second and final phase of the polls in Gujarat. The Congress also filed a Complaint before the Election Commission (EC) regarding technical snags in the machines.
However, after checking EC officials ruled out any such technical snag in the EVMs. According to officials of Ahmedabad district collectorate, eight EVMs and 24 VVPATs were changed after complaints of malfunctioning were received from booths in 21 constituencies in the district.
Some of the machines had jammed buttons while the problem at some places was of unclear display. The officials said that they had received complaint from the Congress about a few booths where the complainants had alleged blue-tooth connection to the machine.
Teams of experts were sent to all these places for verification. Sources said that due to some glitches, polling had started at 9 am at some booths instead of 8 am as election officials tried mock voting many times.
