Congress no longer has woman President, so will bring women CMs: Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI: Congress President-elect Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that since his party does not have a woman chief anymore, it would have to compensate by installing “women CMs in states.”

“Unfortunately we do not have a woman President anymore, so we will have to compensate. We will work on having women CMs in states,” said Rahul while addressing the ‘Congess Mahila Samvad’ event in Delhi.

His mother Sonia Gandhi, the incumbent chief of the party, held the position for 19 years. He is expected to take over from her on December 16.

He also credited his mother with pushing the agenda of women.

Rahul also took the opportunity to once again accuse the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of being anti-women, this time by invoking Mahatma Gandhi.

“Look at any photo of Gandhiji, you will see atleast three-four women with him. Women can’t even join the RSS, that is their ideology,” he charged.

He also predicted that a “surprise” could be in store in Gujarat.

“Maybe you are going to get a surprise in Gujarat. In three-four months, the merger, talks and discussion of the Congress unit with the people of Gujarat were powerful,” he said.
