Kerala MP asks Rajasthan CM to expedite student death probe

JAIPUR: A Lok Sabha MP from Kerala on Monday wrote to Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje seeking a fair and expeditious probe into the circumstances under which Stanly Benny, a final-year Student of MBA at Amity University, Jaipur, died on November 16.

The father of the student, CR Benny, has taken a complaint to the police alleging that this is a case of murder, since he found an injury on the head of his son’s body as he claimed it for his last rites.

The student’s family had not been informed of any injury. The post-mortem report had also shown that there were injuries on chest, neck and back.

Benny held a press conference in Jaipur a few days ago, urging the media to take up the case as police, university authorities and the state government appeared to be colluding to dismiss this as a natural death caused by heart attack.

Benny said his son had been roughed up by a gang of students, among them a student of law allegedly a drug addict, and some outsiders.

MP Kodikunnil Suresh, in his letter to the CM, said: “It seems that the Station House Officer Chandwaji Police Station tried to delay the registering of FIR thereby complicating the initial investigation process. Ultimately, under the intervention of the Superintendent of Police, Jaipur Rural, FIR was lodged under Section 302 IPC.”

Suresh said that the CM must act to restore the faith of the Malayali Community in Rajasthan in the state’s justice delivery mechanism.

“Considering the agony of the family members of the deceased student and the Malayali community in Jaipur, I request you to pass on immediate direction to your home department that the investigation is speeded up to its logical end,” the MP wrote.
