Amarnath pilgrim bus attackers killed in encounter

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police DGP said on Tuesday that three Terrorists responsible for the Amarnath bus attack, in which seven people were killed on July 10, were eliminated in an encounter in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday.

Monday’s encounter was triggered when a group of terrorists attacked an Army convoy on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Kulgam district and then took shelter in a nearby house. Three terrorists and a jawan were killed, while three civilians injured in the firefight between the two parties. One terrorist was also arrested.

The slain terrorists were identified as Yawar Bashir of Kulgam and two Pakistanis – Abu Mavia and Furkan Bahai. Furkan was the divisional commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who succeeded Abu Ismail, after the latter was killed in September.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, the DGP wrote, “With the elimination of Abu Ismail earlier and now these three, the group of attackers that attacked Amarnath Yatris has been completely wiped out (sic).”

The attack on Amarnath Yatris at Botengo village near Anantnag had left seven people, including six women, dead and at least a dozen others injured.
