Ashish Kumar Sharma, a resident of the locality, alleged that Cow Smugglers took away stray cattle into trucks in the absence of police patrolling in the area. Sharma told police that he and his father followed vehicles of the suspected cow smugglers, but the suspects ram their truck into his car and also attacked them due to which they have sustained injuries.
The residents and right wing outfits asked the police to take action against the suspected cow smugglers. “The police team arrived very late at the spot due to which the suspects got ample time to flee from the area,” Sharma said. On Tuesday, the police team that arrived at the spot to take stock of the situation had to face slogans from the resident.
“At 1AM, I saw cow smugglers were illegally pushing cows into a mini-truck. When we quizzed them, the smugglers pelted stones at us. Yet, we followed the vehicle but we were attacked twice ,”Sharma alleged. The windshield of Sharma’s car was shattered in the stone pelting.
“We had received an information from the control room and a tem was sent to the area , efforts are being made to identify the vehicles of suspects,” said Sandeep Sharma, SHO, Kotwali police station.
The official informed TOI that police have strengthen the night patrolling and also put up barricades to put a curb on cow smuggling in the city. He added that CCTV footage are being scanned to probe the case.
