Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also asked secretaries to work out a system to assess the gap between what’s on paper and what’s delivered on the ground and how the gaps can be addressed.
Sources said the instruction to include ease of living has come days after the PM took the presentation on this subject from three of his ministers. “Now we have to specifically mention how policy decisions and other interventions have made the life of people easier in their respective sectors. The government underlines that governance should focus on making people’s lives better,” said an official, who did not wish to be named.
Modi has reiterated to top officials to focus on proposing policies that will benefit people directly and improve their quality of life. The PMO has also suggested ministers and secretaries to use social media to reach out to the people and spread information about various public welfare initiatives.
The PM had recently said that ease of doing Business also leads to ease of living. “This ranking may be called ease of doing business, but I believe that along with ease of doing business, this is also an indicator of ease of living,” he had said after India’s ranking in ‘ease of doing business’ improved recently.
