BCCI set to revoke ban on RCA soon

NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) is set to revoking the ban on the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) which has been in place for three years.

It has been learnt that BCCI is expected to lift the ban soon once the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) and the BCCI office-bearers meet the next time. TOI tried to reach acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary but he wasn’t available for a comment. However, BCCI’s acting president CK Khanna, who was made the chairman of the ad-hoc committee to run the affairs in Rajasthan Cricket, confirmed the development. “This is one of the issues scheduled to be discussed. It will be done at an appropriate forum,” Khanna told TOI.

Board sources said CoA had already dissolved the adhoc committee and it is the right time to revoke the ban. The CoA has asked Khanna to call an SGM by November 16 so that the meeting could be held in another 21 days. The board is due to appear in front of the Rajasthan High Court to explain the status of RCA at a hearing in November.

RCA was suspended by BCCI in May2014 when ex-IPL commissioner Lalit Modi was re-elected as the president. The elections were held again under the supervision of the High Court and Congress leader CP Joshi was declared the president in June this year, defeating Modi’s son Ruchir.

The cricket affairs of RCA, however, has been looked after by BCCI since 2014. The state’s first-class team has been playing under the name Team Rajasthan.

Recently, BCCI recommended the names of selectors for the Rajasthan senior and junior teams. It is understood that most of the selectors hailed from the Jaipur district. Interestingly, one of the recommended names, Mohammad Aslam, was the convenor of the Rajputana Premier Leaguewhich has come under the scrutiny of the BCCI’s anti-corruption unit.

Among other matters, BCCI is supposed to discuss the proposed settlement with the erstwhile Kochi IPL franchise and the future tours programme for the period 2019-2023
