Vacate your seat if you cannot control price rise and unemployment: Rahul to Modi

NEW DELHI: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday asked the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre to “vacate its seat” if it finds itself unable to counter price rise and unemployment.

“महंगी गैस, महंगा राशन, बंद करो खोखला भाषण, दाम बांधो, काम दो, वर्ना खाली करो सिंहासन (Expensive gas, expensive rations, stop your hollow speeches. Control prices, give employment, or vacate the seat),” Rahul tweeted with a link to an article about the recent hike in LPG prices.

The price of cooking gas was on Wednesday hiked by Rs 4.50 per cylinder, in what is the 19th increase in rates since July 2016 when the government decided to remove the subsidy on it by raising prices every month.

The hike came under attack from several Opposition parties, including the Congress, which accused the Centre of “betraying” the people.

This election season has also seen the Congress, and specifically Rahul, launch attack after attack on the BJP government on the issue of unemployment.

At a rally in Valsad in poll-bound Gujarat recently, Rahul had alleged that the “magic of ‘Make in India'” was such that only 450 youngsters in India get employment every 24 hours. He had contrasted this with China, which, he had said, creates 50,000 jobs a day.
