Bihar: Man made to spit, lick his saliva as punishment in Nalanda

PATNA: Fifty-four-year-old Mahesh Thakur was allegedly made to spit and lick his saliva off the floor as a Punishment for entering an influential person’s home without knocking, in Bihar’s Nalanda district. He was also Beaten with slippers by women.

“He (Thakur) had reportedly gone to Surendra Yadav home on Wednesday night for khaini (tobacco) but no male members were there at that time,”Nalanda DM SM Thiyagarajan told TOI.

He said the victim belongs to the Nai community and runs a barber shop in the village, while Surendra is an influential person.

“On the act of Thakur, a panchayat was called today afternoon by Dharmendra Yadav where the victim was beaten with slippers by several women,” the DM said, adding that the Biharsharif SDO Sudhir Kumar was sent to the spot to take an account of the incident.

The victim has comfirmed that he was overstepping by entering the house without knocking, and was humiliated, Thiyagarajan said.

Meanwhile, taking suo motu cognizance after reports of the incident surfaced in media, the administration has ordered a thorough investigation and the report will be out in two days.

However, according to police sources, Thakur had gone to Surendra’s home with wrong intentions.

“He was initially given the punishment of getting beaten 25 times with slippers but it was later reduced to five times,” said a police source.

Bihar minister Nand Kishore Yadav, too, has reacted to the incident, saying, “Such incidents will not be tolerated. We will take strict action against the culprits.”
