BHUBANESWAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited famed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik to extend support to ‘Swachhata Hi Seva‘, a cleanliness campaign of Centre under Swachh Bharat Mission.

The letter from PMO, copy of which is with TOI, lauded Pattnaik’s artistic skill. “With your unique gift of art with sand, you have earned tremendous accolades for the country. I personally invite you to Support Swachhata Hi Seva movement and dedicate some time for Swachh Bharat. Your participation will further inspire others to be part of the movement,” the PMO letter, sent to Pattnaik on September 15, read.

Swachhata Hi Seva, launched on September 15, is fast becoming a movement that the people themselves are running. Many organisations run by common people is the key feature of the overall Swachh Bharat programme – citizens becoming inspiring leaders, owning the movement and running it.

“It is an honour to have received the letter from the PMO. On September 23, I will take part in Swachhata Hi Seva campaign at Chilika. The proposed campaign is being organised by ministry of tourism in association with state tourism department,” Pattnaik said.
In a related development, Pattnaik on Thursday facilitated construction of two toilets in two poor families at Penthakota slum in Puri. “I spent over Rs 20,000 that I had received as prize money in a function recently for construction of the two toilets. The families used to defecate in open,” Pattnaik said.
