Acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of Militants in Check-e-Brath area of Sopore, Security Forces launched a cordon and search operation. As the cordon was tightened, the militants started firing triggering the encounter.
A top commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit was among the two militants killed. The two terrorists were later identified as ‘Divisional Commander’ of the terror group Pervaiz Ahmad Wani and Naeem Ahmad Najar.
Two AK rifles, three AK magazines, 90 AK rounds, an INSAS rifle, an INSAS magazine, 13 INSAS rounds and other ammunition was recovered from site. The terrorists were wanted in multiple cases. Pervaiz Ahmad was involved in the serial blast on mobile towers in 2015. Following the encounter, the entire area has been sealed.
Mobile internet services in the area were suspended and educational institutions temporarily shut in Sopore.
Meanwhile, The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an infiltration bid along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Arnia sector on Monday. One intruder was shot down while attempting to infiltrate into the Indian side.
The incident occurred at about 3:40pm when a group of terrorists reached close to the IB fence and “engaged” BSF troops at an observation post. Intermittent exchange of fire is currently underway between security forces and the terrorists.
In another incident, four CRPF jawans were injured in a grenade attack on Monday by militants on a patrol party of the security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
A search operation has been launched in the area to nab the attackers. Security forces say that tight vigil by the jawans and better coordination between various agencies is resulted in successful operations against terrorist in recent months.
