India to play 5th ODI with Sri Lanka today

The Indian team have already swept the Test series 3-nil. India will wrap up their more than one and a half month long Sri Lanka tour with one-off Twenty-20 at Colombo on Wednesday.

The 5th ODI between India and Sri Lanka will be like two sides of the coin. The visitors looking to experiment and whitewash the Lankans while the hosts play for pride and an elusive win after 4 games in colour clothing. Upal Tharanga returns to captain Lanka while the host team search for answers to get a potent playing 11 to challenge India.

Indian captain will continue to be flexible and all 3 players who got a break in the last game will get another chance to shine. The batting order is flexible and the experiment will be made depending on the situation of the game. Captain Virat Kohli backing MS Dhoni as the Mr Dependable for the 2019 plans for the world cup makes things interesting for the keeper batsmen.

Indian team management has a problem of plenty. Their bowlers, batsmen and fielding have been outstanding and now will be looking to win the final outing in the 50 over format.

Sri Lanka’s current state cannot be termed as a struggle. It would be an understatement. From stepping down of their regular captain to injuries to ban and resignation of their selection panel, Sri Lanka has seen it all. The 168 run loss at home hurts most in front of home fans and the team could be playing for pride in the dead rubber outing.

Talking about numbers, India clearly has the edge over the Sri Lankans in 154 outings. India gets 87 wins to 55 losses with one outing tied and 11 fetching no results.

Sri Lanka has lost 6 straight matches and would be hoping for a turnaround in the outing on Sunday. India will be looking for a whitewash in the final outing.

The team of Sri Lanka includes Niroshan Dickwella(w), Dilshan Munaweera, Kusal Mendis, Lahiru Thirimanne, Angelo Mathews, Milinda Siriwardana, Wanidu Hasaranga, Akila Dananjaya, Malinda Pushpakumara, Vishwa Fernando, Lasith Malinga(c), Danushka Gunathilaka, Chamara Kapugedera, Lakshan Sandakan, Thisara Perera, Dushmantha Chameera, Dhananjaya de Silva.
