CBI: Report on tapping of minister’s phone false

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday dismissed a News Report of a Union minister’s phone being tapped by the agency as “completely false”.

Within minutes of a television channel airing a news Report that the central anti-corruption probe agency was tapping a cabinet minister’s phone for his alleged involvement in a case, CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal issued a statement saying, “This news report is completely false, not based on facts, speculative and malicious”.

The agency stated that the television channel did not approach the agency to verify the alleged inputs before the story was aired.

The agency’s statement further added that, “It is reiterated that in the light of professional ethics, the news channel should have checked the veracity of the inputs with chief information officer, CBI (spokesperson) before airing the story.”
