On the second day of his three-day visit, Shah was interacting with elected representatives when 62-year-old Jat, who had stood up to speak, fainted and fell. He was immediately rushed to Jaipur’s SMS Hospital, where he is presently undergoing treatment in the medical ICU.
Following the incident, the programme was disrupted as everyone, including prominent BJP leaders, rushed to the hospital. A green corridor was created for transporting Jat from BJP office to the hospital.
“He fell suddenly during the programme at BJP office. We couldn’t feel his pulse, Blood Pressure or breathing. We rushed him to the hospital immediately,” health minister Kalicharan Saraf said.
He said that for the past few months, Jat’s health condition had been an issue as he was suffering from kidney-related problems. He also had diabetes along with irregular blood pressure.
“We called from the BJP office and asked the doctors at the hospital to be prepared,” Saraf said.
Later, in a statement, hospital authorities said that Jat was brought to the hospital in an unconsciousness state with non-recordable pulse, blood pressure and respiration. He was immediately attended to by a team of senior doctors.
“Immediately, he was seen by our senior cardiologist at the emergency department and necessary cardiac resuscitation was given. He was also given two defibrillator (DC) shocks to restore his cardiac rhythm,” hospital authorities said.
They then shifted him from the emergency unit to the ICU, where he was inspected by a team of doctors comprising cardiologist, nephrologist, neurologists and intensivist.
He was given treatment following unanimous decision taken by the group of doctors. Though his blood pressure, cardiac rhythm and blood flow have been maintained, he is still unconscious and on ventilator.
Senior party members, including Shah, chief minister Vasundhara Raje and state party president Ashok Parnami, also reached the hospital.
Jat had defeated Sachin Pilot of Congress in Ajmer in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. A former minister in the Modi government, Jat is currently the president of state Kisan Ayog.
