5 Google I/O Announcements That Will Make Your Android Smarter and Quicker

Tags: google android

Google’s annual developer conference is almost over now, it was filled with modern machine learning advancements the company has been working on and a couple of new product launches including Google Home, messaging platform – “Allo” and more. Additionally, Android received its yearly refresh with the “N” update that comprises of a couple of design enhancements and some behind-the-scenes improvements that a lot of users usually miss acknowledging. Hence, here are top five Google I/O announcements that will make your Android smartphone smarter as well as quicker.

Instant Apps

Android “Instant Apps” is one of the most intuitive breakthroughs that Google showcased at the event, it basically lets a user utilize an app without actually downloading. Whenever you fire up a task that previously redirected to a website, will be now launched in a particular application. Files that are specifically necessary to achieve this will be grabbed from the play store on-demand eliminating the entire process of installing. Android developers will have the ability to divide their apps into independent runnable components to achieve this.

Awareness API

If you’ve ever used Google Now, you would know how deeply it has been integrated with sensors available on the phone to provide weather, offer commute updates and more. With the newly introduced Awareness API, however, developers will be able to evolve their applications and make them essentially, more contextually aware reducing the overall manual input. For instance, the music application will automatically predict when you’ll be exercising and launch itself. It all kind of sounds spooky and violates privacy at some level, although, Google assures that the data being accessed will be as transparent as possible. At the end of the day, it depends on how much information you want to share in the favor of automation.

Google Assistant

Google also entirely changed how their virtual assistant works by fabricating a more conversational and smarter affair. Google Assistant (which is the new name) can now intelligently analyze your queries and can now recognize natural language as well as follow-up questions. Although, Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana have been able to achieve for quite some time, what sets Google’s approach apart is the information graph that is updated every moment through their search engine. It will be embedded natively in Android as updates arrive making chatting with your phone way more refined.

JIT Compiler

How annoyed do you get by that “optimizing apps” screen that takes too much time to end? Well, Google has included a separate ART JIT compiler in the next big Android update that will improve performance and reduce installation times by a sizeable fraction. Even high definition games or large applications won’t take much time once downloaded. Now you won’t be postponing those monthly security patches.

Vulkan API

The upcoming Android N update will also support Vulkan API, an open source 3D graphics interface which is designed to take complete advantage of the multi-threading abilities of a processor replacing the dated OpenGL ES standard. Developers can employ Vulkan to create better and more immersive gaming experiences. Google at the keynote, boastfully claimed that console-grade graphics on mobile are coming soon. While we’re skeptical about that bold statement, Vulkan addition will definitely help in building breathtakingly advance games.

Google is consistently improving upon mobile experiences and Android N will be one of the most crucial releases. Unfortunately, fragmentation is still a worrying issue in the Android space, as a result, the majority of the phones will be left behind. So don’t take us too seriously when we say the new update will make YOUR phone faster and smarter. Most probably your phone will not even get updated to Android N. Heh!
