Acer’s new $350 Chromebook 514 Offers Premium Design and a 12-Hour Battery Life

When you’re in the market for a new Chromebook, you usually have two options — you could either live with a major compromise by purchasing an affordable machine and spend a hefty amount which in most cases, people are not prepared to do just yet for Chromebooks. Acer’s Chrome OS powered computers have been trying to balance that conundrum for a while now and its new $350 Chromebook 514 might just do the trick.

The Acer Chromebook 512, unlike other Chromebooks in its price range, comes with an exterior which is designed with premium aluminum materials. The keyboard is backlit and the trackpad employs Corning Gorilla glass. There is a 14-inch Full HD screen and an HDR camera sensor at the top of the panel for video calls. A touchscreen model is available as well for those who need it.

In addition, the Chromebook 512 offers a plethora of ports including two full-size USB-A, two USB Type-C, one of which charges the laptop, and a MicroSD card slot. One of the highlights of the Chromebook 512 is the 12-hour battery life, a significant bump up from the Chromebook 15 which was rated to last about 9 hours. The Chromebook 512 is compatible with Android apps too.

Acer is yet to reveal three of the key hardware specifications — processor, RAM, and storage but considering the presence of Chrome OS, there’s a good chance those won’t hinder the Chromebook 512’s success. Then again, we can’t really say that for sure just yet. The Acer Chromebook 512 is expected to go on sale in the United States for $350 sometime in October. We should know more about the hardware soon.
