Xiaomi today unveiled the much-awaited successor to its Mi 5X with the launch of 6X in China. The new smartphone, which will possibly arrive as the Mi A2 in international markets, shares a striking resemblance to the Redmi Note 5 Pro from the outside with the same 5.99-inch tall Full HD+ screen.
The Mi 6X is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 octa-core chipset, 4 or 6GB of RAM, 64 or 128GB of internal storage which is expandable, and a 3,050 mAh battery with quick charge support. One of the key highlights of the budget phone is the rear camera setup which includes a regular f/1.75 12-megapixel sensor and another f/1.75 20-megapixel lens. Together, they enable bokeh effects and of course, the Portrait Mode. The camera app, like every other phone released as of late, can also detect various scenes like pets, people and adjust the settings automatically.
On the front as well, there’s a 20-megapixel selfie camera and a soft LED flash beside it. The phone comes preloaded with the company’s own MIUI 9.5 software on top of Android 8.1. Like other Xiaomi 18:9 phones, the Mi 6X features navigation gestures as well which let you ditch the onscreen keys for more screen real estate. There’s a fingerprint reader on the back beneath the camera and a face unlock feature available too.
The Mi 6X comes in a whopping five color options — Cherry Powder, Red Flame, Sand Gold, Glacier Blue, and Black Stone. It’s priced at 1599 Yuan (~Rs 17,000) for the base variant. Xiaomi, at the China launch event, has not revealed if and when the phone will be launched in other countries especially India. Last year, the company introduced the phone under a new “A series” in regions outside of China. The most critical difference was the fact that the Mi A1 came with stock Android instead of Xiaomi’s in-house MIUI skin.
