Google has Finally Released a Standalone Tasks App for Android/iOS

One thing that was missing from the Google’s array of services was a standalone Tasks App. Google Keep comes with a tasks option but Google never had a standalone Tasks app, that is until now. Google has finally decided to release a separate Google Tasks apps for Android and iOS (the app is yet to go live on the App Store).

With this app in place, users will no more have to run from pillar to post in order to compose a simple to-do list. The screenshot shows Google Tasks in action. The simple easy to use UI will hopefully help the users manage their tasks efficiently. We can also see the Nest, label, due dates and email integration in the above screenshot. It is not clear whether or not the Google Tasks will get advanced features like priorities and timeline in the future updates. Google has also announced a Tasks web app feature with the new Gmail but this is integrated with the email service and is not standalone in nature.

The Google Assistant is pretty efficient when it comes to creating a list of tasks/reminders and so is Google Keep. But as of now, there was no way to access the to-do list in a single menu. Microsoft acquired Wunderlist and Apple offers a classy To-Do app of its own. Google is perhaps trying to match the pace with its competitor and also complete the GSuite offering with a functional Google Tasks app.

All said and done, it is still premature to comment on how useful or utilitarian the Google Tasks app will be. This is something we will get to know only after testing the app thoroughly and putting through its paces. The close knitted integration with the Google Suite of services is expected to the biggest upside of the Google Tasks app.
