Samsung Galaxy J2 Core Might be the Company’s First Android Go Smartphone

Samsung India Hire R&D Engineers

Android Go phones seem to be the new trend among Phone makers these days and the biggest smartphone manufacturer might be all set to jump onboard as well. Samsung, as per a new leak, is gearing up to launch its very own Android Go powered smartphone for the masses. Possibly called the “Galaxy J2 Core”, it has appeared on the benchmarks platform, Geekbench today revealing a few of its specifications.

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core will reportedly have 1GB of RAM and an optimized variant of the company’s Exynos 7570 quad-core chipset. The software is mentioned as Android 8.1 which does fall in line with the latest Android Go version. For the uninitiated, Android Go is a lightweight fork of its beefier counterpart designed to run more efficiently on underpowered hardware. The software also features a specialized, trimmed-down set of Google apps like Google Go, Maps Go, which don’t require a ton of resources to function and roughly take only 1MB of space.

Apart from that, though, there are no details specified. Although, if history is any indication, we’ll be seeing a lot more of the Galaxy J2 Core over the coming weeks through the rumor mills. The Korean phone maker has been struggling to establish a strong foothold in the entry-level smartphone segment ever since the rise of dirt cheap and capable smartphones from various Chinese companies. Considering other Android Go phones, this might be priced roughly around the $50 mark and could arrive first in emerging countries like India.

So far, a bunch of phone makers has introduced their Android Go phones including HMD Global’s Nokia, ZTE, Micromax, and there’s even one coming from Reliance Jio soon. Therefore, it’s safe to say it won’t be easy for Samsung’s offering to stand out.
