The ISOCELL Dual has been developed keeping in the mind the increasing trend of Dual Camera smartphones. With each passing days, OEMs are shifting to dual camera sensors for even their mid-range devices. The main feature of the ISOCELL Dual camera sensor is its ‘DSLR like’ Bokeh. Besides, the new hardware would be able to combine light information captured by the two sensors for a brighter and detailed image.

Dual cameras are delivering new and exciting photo-taking experiences on mobile devices,” said Ben K. Hur, vice president of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung’s total solution for ISOCELL Dual will make our customers’ product development process easier, allowing them to bring the most optimized dual camera features to a wider range of consumers.

With ISOCELL Dual, Samsung aims to the bring the dual camera setups in even mid-range and budget smartphones. In fact, the South Korean firm may end up launching a few mid-range devices with dual lens cameras soon. Moreover, the new sensor would enable various other OEMs who source their camera hardware from Samsung to produce improved dual camera devices.

The best part is that Samsung will also be providing its proprietary software to these OEMs for fully utilizing the new hardware. This will help OEMs reduce their manufacturing cost, as they would no longer need to develop or source the camera algorithm from third-party developer firms.

Samsung itself introduced its first dual camera flagship in the form of the Galaxy Note 8. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9+ is also reported to come with a dual sensor, and possibly it will be the first to utilize some of the features of the new ISOCELL sensor.
