After almost a year of its official return, the iconic Nokia 3310 now supports 4G, a significant bump from its 2G compatibility. HMD Global, Nokia’s parent company, has today quietly introduced a new variant of the feature phone in China. For sales, it has partnered with China Mobile in the country. Details about its global availability and pricing are expected to be revealed next month during the annual Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona.
The new Nokia 3310 4G will be available in two color options — Fresh Blue and Deep Black. Apart from the software, the handset is powered by a considerably better set of specifications but doesn’t feature any design upgrades. Unlike its predecessor which ran on the Nokia Series 30+ operating system, the 4G variant has been launched with a Java-based YunOS. It’s essentially a forked Android version developed by China’s Alibaba. It’s unsure, as of now, whether the Nokia 3310 4G will come with the same software in other regions or not.
As far as the hardware is concerned, the new Nokia 3310 flaunts a 2.4-inch QVGA color display on the front. It features 256GB of RAM and 512MB of internal storage compared to 16MB on the original 2G model. The storage is expandable up to 64GB as well through a MicroSD card. On the rear, you’ll find a 2-megapixel camera sensor and a single Led Flash as well.
In addition to that, the Nokia 3310 4G runs on a 1200mAh battery pack which, on paper, can deliver up to five hours of talk time on a 4G VoLTE network and 16 hours of music playback on a single charge. It also comes with Bluetooth v4.0, a standard headphone jack, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and a Micro-USB port for charging or data transfer.
